L’azzurro si piazza secondo, con la misura di 22,34, nella gara che lo statunitense Ryan Crouser vince con 23,51. Terzo posto e medaglia di bronzo per un altro americano, Joe Kovacs (22,12). “Sognavo da una vita di vincere una medaglia in un Mondiale o in un’Olimpiade… Sognavo e poi mi svegliavo… Oggi però ci sono riuscito e non so cosa dire… Mi dispiace per aver fatto un nullo su un lancio che poteva essere notevole”, dice Fabbri a Rai Sport. “Mi piace leggere le cavolate che scrivono su di me: ‘Fabbri non fa bene ai Mondiali’… Mi sono segnato tutti i commenti, oggi devono stare tutti zitti. Mi dispiace aver fatto un solo lancio sui 22 metri, non sono mai stato così bene”.
